In Memoriam: James J. McClure | McCormick Theological Seminary

In Memoriam: James J. McClure

James was born on September 23, 1920 and passed away on Sunday, December 17, 2017.

Jim was a long-time Chicago lawyer, but also served as a captain in the Navy during WWII, and served two terms as President of Oak Park’s village board from 1973-1981. Jim was one of the civic leaders in Oak Park that helped build a spirit of diversity and community that proved elusive in many other towns and cities in the aftermath of the racial tensions of the 60s. He was a true champion of diversity and diverse communities. He also served as a Life Trustee for McCormick.

Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lynn.

A Memorial Service will beheld Friday, January 5th, 2:30 p.m. at the Elliott Chapel, Westminster Place, 3131 Simpson St., Evanston, IL. A second Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 6th, 2:30 p.m. at First United Church, 848 Lake St., Oak Park, IL.

The family requests that memorial donations be sent to McCormick Theological Seminary.
