St. John Church, an open and affirming congregation of the United Church of Christ, seeks an energetic Director of Children’s and Youth Ministries. Christian Education plays a key role in the mission of St. John Church, and our goal to provide and promote a wide range of Christian education opportunities for the church community. The director will report directly to the pastor but work in coordination with the Christian education committee. We are looking for someone to bring new energy and ideas to our programs. 

Qualifications

A commitment to Christ and a calling to Christian education

Bachelor’s degree, education experience, and/or seminary training preferred

Ecumenical and inclusive outlook, supportive of United Church of Christ traditions in an open and affirming congregation.

Strong oral and written communication skills, including active listening

Requires passing a background check

Job Description

Work with appropriate church leaders to set goals, determine priorities, establish programs, and coordinate calendar

Develop Sunday school curriculum in conjunction with the Christian Education Committee to create dynamic, age-appropriate Sunday school activities

Organize meaningful children's and youth programs, including fellowship, worship, and service opportunities

Work cooperatively with the pastor on children’s messages and confirmation class instruction

Coordinate safe and fun child care during services for infants through 3-year-olds

Use safe church policies to recruit and promote congregational involvement in Sunday school and youth activities

Oversee that all areas of children’s and youth ministry are implemented

Participate in regularly scheduled Christian Education Committee meetings

Promote children’s and youth ministries to the church and wider community

Participate in special events and ministries

Work approximately 15-20 hours per week
